Substances impact our lives on a daily basis — whether we consciously choose to partake in them or not. Exploring your relationship to substances in therapy can help you gain important insight, increase self-awareness, and make more informed choices for your health and overall wellbeing. Sobriety isn’t for everyone, but prioritizing your health always is.

At Glow Collective, substance use therapy is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and respect for your autonomy. We recognize that substance use often develops as a way to cope with stress, trauma, pain, or unmet needs — and that healing begins not with judgment, but with understanding.

Your relationship to substances is unique to you.

Substance use is common across a variety of communities, cultures, and age groups, especially in today’s world. Substance use in today’s society is shaped by complex factors—stress, social norms, economic pressures, trauma, and easier access to substances—leading to diverse patterns from experimental use to dependence. For many, substance use arises as a response to stress, social pressures, or attempts to manage emotional pain. Perhaps your use isn’t clinically “problematic”—but for you, it just doesn’t feel right. Maybe you’re wondering why you continue to engage with substances, and are hoping to find a compassionate, supportive environment to explore your relationship more deeply.

Maybe you notice that substance use correlates to difficult feelings, like stress, burnout, anxiety, or depression. Perhaps you’re coping with trauma, loneliness, or chronic pain, and substances have become part of that process for you, whether through prescriptions or other means. There are often reasons why we use the substances that we do—ultimately, we just want to feel better. But, patterns of heavy using or coping-oriented use can increase the risk of dependence, health problems, and strained relationships.

Unfortunately, stigma and criminalization still hinder many people from seeking help. In a world where substances are common, exploring sobriety (as you define it) can feel challenging, abnormal, or even scary. For many, using substances and working to recover can come with immense shame, guilt, and self-judgment. These feelings of shame can perpetuate addictive behaviors and substance use, which can push us even deeper into cycles of use.

Therapy at Glow Collective offers a nonjudgmental space to untangle patterns, triggers, and beliefs that keep substance use in place, while teaching practical skills for managing cravings, reducing risk, and rebuilding routines.

Whether you’re in early recovery, or seeking long-term support—we can help.

Perhaps you’ve already completed a treatment program and are now looking for compassionate support to sustain your ongoing sobriety journey. Maybe you’ve struggled with abstinence-only sobriety models, feeling that they don’t fully allow you to live life on your terms, and you’re wanting something different. Perhaps you’re working to transition back into your life after treatment, and seeking support as you integrate.

Recovery looks different for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned AA participant or newly exploring sobriety, we’re here to support you compassionately every step of the way.

For many folks, substance use may not feel like a ‘problem’.

Perhaps you don’t feel as though your use is inappropriate. Maybe your use is occasional, and even seems ‘normal’ among your peers. Perhaps your use is even rare, but when it does occur, it doesn’t feel quite right to you. Maybe the use of others—your family, friends, or parents—has caused you to re-evaluate your own relationship to substance use.

Substance use doesn’t have to reach the point of needing rehab for it to be worth addressing. You deserve a safe, comfortable, trauma-informed space to gently explore your relationship to substances and get compassionate support as you work toward becoming the healthiest, most grounded version of yourself.

A Non-Judgmental, Trauma-Informed Approach

Substance use therapy at Glow Collective is not about labels or rigid definitions of recovery. Instead, therapy offers space to explore your relationship with substances honestly and at your own pace. Whether your goal is harm reduction, moderation, abstinence, or clarity about what you want moving forward, therapy centers your values and lived experience.

Exploring substance use in therapy can help you understand the underlying reasons that led them to use alcohol or drugs—such as coping with stress, anxiety, trauma, loneliness, or chronic pain—and develop healthier ways to meet those needs. For those who want to cut down, stop, or change the role substances play in their lives, a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based approach can address both the emotional drivers and the physical realities of dependence, support relapse prevention, and strengthen relationships and self-care so lasting change becomes possible.

This work is trauma-informed and mindful of how substance use can intersect with anxiety, depression, burnout, identity, relationships, and nervous system regulation.

We can help you reconnect with your inner wisdom and develop more supportive ways of caring for yourself.

For folks concerned about substance abuse, we will also:
